Track widget conversion is the automation that tells Personizely a widget did its job: the visitor submitted the form, clicked the offer or landed on a prize. Each run counts one conversion. Conversions drive the widget's conversion rate, decide which views get credit for goals and revenue, and feed the "converted" option of the [Frequency](https://docs.personizely.net/frequency) rule.

**Available on:** all platforms.

## How it works

1. You add **Track widget conversion** to the element that represents success. It's added automatically to new Button, Survey, Products and Form elements.
2. When that element's event happens (click, submit, timer or cart progress reaching its goal, or a wheel landing on the segment), the conversion is recorded.
3. In the visitor's browser, the widget is marked as converted straight away. On Personizely's servers, the event is marked as converted and the widget's and variation's conversion counts go up by one.

## What a conversion changes

| Area | Effect |
| --------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Widget stats** | **Conversion rate** = conversions ÷ views. Each run counts once, so a visitor who converts on two different views counts twice. |
| **Goals and revenue** | A widget's goals are credited only to views that converted, unless **Attribute on view** is on in the widget's **Goals** card. See [Goals](https://docs.personizely.net/goals) and [Revenue attribution](https://docs.personizely.net/attribution). |
| **Frequency** | Enables "Stop once converted" and "Pause for *duration* once converted". |
| **Steps** | The widget forgets its saved step, so the next time it opens it starts at the first step. See [Steps](https://docs.personizely.net/widget-steps). |
| **Teaser** | Closing a converted widget closes it instead of minimizing it to the [teaser](https://docs.personizely.net/widget-teaser). |

## Configuration

Track widget conversion has no options. Add it under **Interaction → Automation → Add action**, with **Action in** set to Personizely.

Removing it shows a warning: "If you remove this action you will not be able to track conversions and revenue of this element in this widget."

## Behavior details and limitations

- **Put it on the success element only.** A "No thanks" button with this automation would count rejections as conversions. Templates already place it correctly, including on the prize segments of wheel templates.
- **Each element counts separately.** If both a "Get offer" button and the form on the next step track conversions, a visitor who uses both counts two conversions.
- **A/B tests with a control group.** The control group sees nothing and can't convert, so **Conversion rate** isn't available as a metric when an experiment has a control group. Use goal conversion rate or revenue per visitor. See [Widget A/B testing](https://docs.personizely.net/widget-experiments-and-ab-testing).
- **Preview doesn't count.** Conversions aren't recorded in [preview](https://docs.personizely.net/preview-qa).
- **Closing after converting is still a close** for the Frequency rule.

## Examples

- **Lead form:** Form with Track widget conversion (default) and **Go to step** "Thank you".
- **Click-through offer:** Button "Shop the sale" with **Open URL** and Track widget conversion.
- **Spin to win:** Track widget conversion on every prize segment, not on "No luck" segments.

## Troubleshooting

- **Conversion rate is 0%** → the automation was removed, or it's on an element visitors don't use.
- **Goals show no revenue for the widget** → no views converted and **Attribute on view** is off.
- **"Stop once converted" doesn't stop the widget** → the element visitors use doesn't have this automation.
