Attentive integration
The Attentive integration subscribes visitors who sign up through Personizely widgets to your Attentive SMS and email marketing program, through a sign-up source you choose, and saves their Personizely profile data as Attentive custom attributes. Use it when your popups collect phone numbers and you send SMS with Attentive.
Available on: all platforms. SMS and email.
Connect Attentive
- Go to Settings → Integrations, find Attentive (under SMS) and click Connect.
- Log in to Attentive and approve access. You're sent back to Personizely.
What's synced
Personizely field | Attentive |
|---|---|
Phone | Subscriber phone number |
Subscriber email | |
Every other field with a value | Custom attribute |
Custom attribute names are the Personizely field name in lowercase with spaces and symbols replaced by underscores: "Skin type" becomes skin_type, "First name" becomes first_name. Use them in Attentive segments and journeys.
The subscriber also carries the Personizely visitor ID as an external identifier, which helps if you reconcile data later.
Automation actions
Add this under Automation → Action in → Attentive. It needs an email address or a phone number on the visitor's profile.
Action | What it does | Options |
|---|---|---|
Add contact | Subscribes the visitor to marketing through the sign-up source, if they aren't subscribed yet, and saves their custom attributes | Signup source ID (for example 111222) |
How it runs:
- Personizely checks whether the visitor's email is already subscribed in Attentive.
- If not, it creates a marketing subscription for the visitor's phone number and email through your sign-up source.
- In every case, it saves the visitor's profile fields as custom attributes, so returning subscribers get their attributes updated.
Sign-up source ID
The sign-up source tells Attentive where the subscriber came from and which compliance flow applies, such as the opt-in confirmation text a new SMS subscriber receives. Create or find an API sign-up source in your Attentive account and copy its ID into Signup source ID. If you're not sure which one to use, ask your Attentive contact for the sign-up source ID for a third-party popup.
Use different sign-up sources for different widgets to see which popup brings in subscribers in Attentive's reporting.
Target filters
Attentive has no list filter in Personizely, and changes in Attentive aren't synced back. To keep a popup from asking existing subscribers again, target with the Visitor fields filter filter, for example "Phone is empty". See also Email list and tag filters for platforms that do sync lists.
Gotchas
- Compliance messages come from Attentive. Personizely doesn't send the opt-in confirmation text; Attentive does, according to the sign-up source. Test with your own number before going live.
- Already-subscribed check uses the email. A visitor whose email is already subscribed isn't subscribed again, even through a different sign-up source; only their attributes are updated.
- Show your SMS terms in the form. The action creates a marketing subscription, so the form must carry the consent language Attentive and your region require.
- No click-ID identification. Attentive links don't identify visitors in Personizely. Use Identifying visitors if you need it.
- No unsubscribe action. Unsubscribes are handled in Attentive (for example by replying STOP).
Examples
- Two-step email + SMS popup: step 1 collects email; step 2 asks for the phone number with SMS terms and runs Add contact with your popup's sign-up source ID.
- Spin-to-win for SMS: a Wheel of Fortune (spin to win) gated by a Form with Phone; the Form runs Add contact, and the prize code is shown on the next step.
- Segment by quiz answer: a survey stores "Skin type"; Attentive receives skin_type and segments journeys by it.
