Company enrichment (Clearbit, Albacross)
Company enrichment tells Personizely which company a visitor is browsing from, using Clearbit or Albacross. Personizely then knows the company's name, domain, country, size, revenue and industry, and you can use them to personalize your site for B2B audiences: enterprise messaging for large companies, an industry-specific headline, or a named-account offer.
Available on: all platforms. Needs a Clearbit or Albacross account with access to their company reveal (IP-to-company) service.
How it works
- You connect a provider in Settings → Integrations (Enrichment).
- A visitor starts a session. Personizely asks your provider which company the visitor's network belongs to. This happens once per browser session.
- If the provider recognizes a company, its data is kept for the rest of the session and is available to targeting and dynamic text.
- Campaigns that depend on company data wait for it. Their content stays hidden until the answer arrives, then the right variation shows. Widgets are re-checked as soon as it does.
If the provider doesn't recognize a company, the visitor simply has no company data. Most consumer traffic (home broadband, mobile networks, VPNs) isn't linked to a company.
Connect a provider
- Go to Settings → Integrations and open the Enrichment category.
- Click Connect on Clearbit or Albacross.
- Fill in the connection details from your provider account and click Connect.
Connect only one provider. Personizely uses one enrichment source at a time.
Company data
Data | Clearbit | Albacross | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
Name | ✓ | ✓ | |
Domain | ✓ | ✓ | The company's website domain |
Country | ✓ | ✓ | Where the company is based, not where the visitor is. For the visitor's location, use the Location filter |
Founded year | ✓ | ✓ | |
Employees | ✓ | ✓ | A range, such as 51–250 |
Annual revenue | ✓ | ✓ | An estimated range |
Industry | ✓ (NAICS) | ✓ (Albacross's own classification) | The Company filter's NAICS Category is most reliable with Clearbit |
What's filled in depends on what the provider knows about each company.
Using company data
- Targeting: the Company filter (B2B targeting) appears in targets once a provider is connected. Combine conditions such as "Employees (from) is higher than 1000" and "NAICS Category is Retail trade".
- Dynamic text: insert the company's name ({company.name}) or domain ({company.domain}) into widgets and campaigns, for example "Built for teams like {company.name or 'yours'}". See Dynamic text (personalization variables).
- Personalizations: run a Personalizations per segment, such as enterprise, mid-market and SMB versions of your homepage hero.
Behavior details and limitations
- One lookup per session, for every visitor. Once a provider is connected, Personizely looks up each new browser session, whether or not a campaign or widget uses company data at that moment. Each lookup counts toward your provider plan. Disconnect the integration when you stop using company targeting.
- The first answer stays for the session. A visitor who moves from office Wi-Fi to mobile data keeps the first result until the session ends.
- Hidden content waits for the provider. Campaigns targeted by company data show once the provider answers. A slow or failed lookup means the visitor sees your default content.
- Accuracy is the provider's. IP-to-company matching works best for offices with their own network, and less well for remote workers, shared offices and cloud networks.
- Privacy. Lookups identify a company, not a person. Mention the provider in your privacy policy as you would any analytics vendor.
- Not stored as visitor fields. Company data lives in the visitor's session for targeting and dynamic text. It isn't added to contacts or sent to email integrations.
Examples
- Enterprise homepage: a personalization targeted to "Employees (from) is higher than 1000" swaps the hero to "Built for enterprise teams" and the button to "Book a demo".
- Named accounts: a callout for visitors whose Domain is one of your target accounts, offering a direct line to their account manager.
- Company greeting: a bar reading "Welcome, team", targeted to visitors whose company Name is not empty, so everyone else never sees it.
