Shopify integration
The Shopify integration is the connection between Personizely and your Shopify store, made when you install the Personizely app. Besides loading the snippet on your storefront, it gives Personizely access to your customers, orders, carts, markets, discounts, products and themes. That access is what powers server-side revenue attribution, price, theme, template and shipping tests, cart and customer targeting, product widgets and Shopify automations.
Available on: Shopify Online Store themes. For headless storefronts, see Install Personizely on Shopify Hydrogen.
To install the app and turn on the app embed, see Install Personizely on Shopify. This page explains what the connection enables once it's in place.

Customers
- Automatic identification. When a customer is logged in to their account, Personizely identifies the visitor as that customer once per session and copies their email, name and phone into the profile. Customers who check out are identified too. See Identifying visitors.
- Customer filter (Shopify): target logged-in customers, guests, or customers with certain tags, such as VIP or wholesale.
- Order history filter: target by number of orders, total spent, products bought or order tags.
- Add customer automation: create or update the visitor as a Shopify customer from a widget form, with tags, email and SMS marketing consent and birthdate. See Shopify widget automations.
Orders and attribution
Personizely receives your orders from Shopify and matches them to visitors server-side, so purchases are attributed without a thank-you page script. With the connection you get:
- The system Purchase goal, plus Purchase goals filtered by products or order tags. See Goals.
- Attribute orders when they're paid (default) or created, for cash on delivery.
- Profit analytics from Shopify's cost per item, optionally including shipping.
- Order tagging with the campaigns and variations each order was credited to.
- Built-in tracking for GoKwik, ShipRocket and Shopflo checkouts. See Custom checkouts: GoKwik, ShipRocket, Shopflo.
How it all works is on Shopify order tracking and profit and Revenue attribution.
Carts and checkout
- Add to cart and Checkout start events come from Personizely's web pixel, installed with the app, and can be used as Goals, with product filters.
- Cart filters: Cart value filter, Cart size filter and Cart items filter.
- Triggers: Add to cart trigger, with product and variant conditions, and Proceeding to checkout trigger. They work with standard theme forms, AJAX carts and cart drawers.
- Cart widgets: Cart progress (free shipping bar) bars and cart-based product recommendations.
- Set cart attribute and Add a product to the cart automations. See Shopify widget automations.
Markets
Personizely reads your Shopify Markets and the market each visitor's storefront is served in. Use the Market filter (Shopify Markets) to run tests and widgets per market, so they agree with the currency, language and prices on the page.
Discounts
- Unique codes: the Coupon and discount codes and the Apply discount automation can generate a single code per visitor from one of your Shopify discounts, with your prefix. The codes are created in your Shopify admin under that discount.
- Auto-apply: codes can be applied to the visitor's cart, so they don't have to type them at checkout.
- Fixed codes such as SUMMER10 work too; create them in Shopify first.
Products
- Product pickers across the app read your catalogue, including collections and variants. Product changes and deletions in Shopify are picked up automatically.
- Products (cross-sell and upsell): cross-sells, upsells, recommendations and recently viewed products, with add to cart, buy now and replace buttons.
- Rules: show widgets on Product pages rule or Product pages with tags rule.
- Price testing (Shopify): test product prices with a Shopify Function on Shopify Plus, or with hidden duplicate products on other plans.
Theme and templates
- Theme testing (Shopify): show an unpublished theme to a share of visitors.
- Template testing (Shopify): show an alternate Shopify template, such as a product or collection template, on your live theme. Your store's pages and blog posts are offered when you preview a template test.
- App blocks: Embedded widget and Placeholder blocks place Embedded widgets and placeholders in any theme section.
- Theme files: small files that let the snippet read cart and product data are added to your live theme, and to any theme you publish later. They don't change how pages look. See Install Personizely on Shopify.
Shipping
Shipping rate testing (Shopify) let you test shipping rates and free-shipping thresholds. They need Shopify Plus, Plus Trial, Advanced or a development store, and ask for shipping permissions the first time you use them.
Consent
Personizely follows the visitor's choice in Shopify's customer privacy settings, read on page load and whenever it changes. Widgets can also act as a consent banner with the Change user consent automation. See Cookies and consent.
Permissions requested later
Some features ask for extra Shopify permissions only when you turn them on. Personizely prompts you to approve them in Shopify:
Feature | Extra permission |
|---|---|
Shipping tests | Read and write shipping settings, read locations |
Profit analytics | Read inventory (product cost) |
Order tagging | Edit orders |
Disconnecting
The Shopify connection can't be disconnected from Settings → Integrations. To disconnect, uninstall the Personizely app in Shopify. When the app is uninstalled:
- Order tracking stops and Personizely's webhooks are removed from your store.
- The theme files Personizely added are removed from your live theme.
- Price tests that use the Shopify Function stop applying prices, and active shipping tests are stopped.
- The app embed and web pixel are removed by Shopify with the app.
Behavior details and limitations
- Shopify plans matter for some features. Price tests with a Shopify Function need Shopify Plus, Plus Trial or a development store; other plans use duplicate products. Shipping tests need Plus, Plus Trial, Advanced or a development store.
- Order history from the storefront covers the customer's paid orders that Shopify shows on the storefront. See Order history filter for details.
- Checkout is Shopify's. Widgets and campaigns run on your storefront, not inside Shopify checkout. Checkout events and orders still count.
- One store per website. Each Personizely website connects to one Shopify store. For several stores, add a website per store.
