PreProduct integration
5 min
The PreProduct integration makes Personizely work with pre-orders taken through the PreProduct app on Shopify. When a visitor pre-orders a product with PreProduct's button, Personizely treats it as an add to cart, so your add-to-cart popups, upsells and cart-based widgets still show. It also adds a Pre-order button option to the Products (cross-sell and upsell) element.
Available on: Shopify, with the PreProduct app installed.
Set up
- Install and set up PreProduct in your Shopify store.
- In Personizely, go to Settings → Integrations, find PreProduct (under Other) and click Enable. No credentials are needed.
How it works
Pre-orders trigger add-to-cart widgets
- A visitor clicks PreProduct's pre-order button on a product page, and PreProduct adds the item.
- Personizely receives the pre-order as an add to cart of that product and variant, with its quantity.
- Widgets using the Add to cart trigger fire as they would for a normal add to cart, including product and variant conditions.
- If PreProduct is set to send the visitor to the cart after a pre-order, and a Personizely widget was shown, the redirect waits until the visitor closes the widget. If no widget was shown, the redirect happens right away.
PreProduct's own pre-order button isn't also counted as a regular add-to-cart click, so a pre-order fires the trigger once.
Pre-order button in Products elements
With PreProduct enabled, the Products element's CTA gets a Pre-order option (button label "Pre-order"). With it:
- Only products with a pre-order selling plan are shown in the element, and only their variants that have one.
- Clicking the button adds the product to the cart under its pre-order selling plan.
- The element's action and automations run like for Add, and the click counts toward the widget's conversions and revenue.
Behavior details and limitations
- Shopify only. PreProduct is a Shopify app; the integration has no effect on other platforms.
- Purchases are tracked as usual. Pre-order checkouts are Shopify orders, recorded by Shopify order tracking and profit when they're paid or created, depending on Attribute orders. For pre-orders that are charged later, choose When the order is created if you want them counted at checkout rather than when payment is captured.
- Cart filters see the item once PreProduct has added it to the cart, so Cart value filter and Cart items filter targeting include pre-ordered products.
- PreProduct settings stay in PreProduct. Deposits, charge dates and shipping estimates are configured there; Personizely doesn't change them.
Examples
- Pre-order reassurance: a popup with the Add to cart trigger on pre-order products, explaining the expected ship date and offering a discount on in-stock accessories.
- Upsell after pre-order: a Products element with Add CTA, shown after a pre-order, recommending in-stock items.
- Launch page: a callout on the collection page with a Products element using the Pre-order CTA for upcoming products.
