Cart size filter
The Cart size filter matches visitors by how many items are in their cart, counted either as total quantity or as distinct products. Use it for bundle offers ("add one more"), quantity-break messages, or to target visitors who have started a cart.
Available on: Shopify (Online Store and Hydrogen) · Wix.
How it's evaluated
The filter reads: Visitor has at least (or less than) [number] [distinct / total] items in cart.
- total counts every unit: 3 of one T-shirt plus 1 cap is 4.
- distinct counts products: 3 of one T-shirt plus 1 cap is 2. Different variants of the same product (sizes, colors) count as one product.
The cart is read when the page loads. It also updates on the page whenever the cart changes through your theme or Personizely: product forms, AJAX add-to-cart buttons, cart drawers and quantity changes on Shopify, and add or remove events on Wix.

Behavior details
- Empty cart. An empty cart has 0 items, so it matches any less than condition and never matches at least.
- The add-to-cart trigger sees the cart before the add. A widget with the Add to cart trigger checks its rules as the product is being added, so the count doesn't include that product yet. "At least 1 item" therefore doesn't match the first add. To target the first add, use "less than 1 item" or no cart filter.
- Every line counts. Free gifts, samples and add-ons added by other apps count as items if they're in the cart.
- Campaigns in Permanent mode. A visitor who already saw a variation keeps it even if their cart size later stops matching. See How targeting works.
Examples
- Bundle nudge: a callout targeted to "less than 3 total items in cart" saying "Buy 3, get 15% off".
- Multi-product shoppers: a cross-sell popup on the cart page targeted to "at least 2 distinct items in cart".
- Started a cart: an exit-intent popup targeted to "at least 1 total item in cart", offering to email the cart.
