Cart value filter
The Cart value filter matches visitors whose cart total is at least, or less than, an amount you set. Use it for free-shipping nudges, cart-threshold upsells, or to show an offer only to visitors with a full cart.
Available on: Shopify (Online Store and Hydrogen) · Wix.
How it's evaluated
The filter reads: Visitor's cart total value is at least (or less than) [amount] [store currency].
- Shopify: the cart total Shopify reports, after cart discounts and before shipping. When the visitor shops in another currency, the total is converted to your store's currency at Shopify's current rate before comparing.
- Wix: the cart subtotal.
The cart is read when the page loads. It also updates on the page whenever the cart changes through your theme or Personizely: product forms, AJAX add-to-cart buttons, cart drawers and quantity changes on Shopify, and add or remove events on Wix. What each Personizely feature does with the updated cart:
Where the filter is used | When a cart change takes effect |
|---|---|
Widget Target rule | The next time a trigger fires on the same page, for example exit intent or a click after the product was added |
Campaign target (content, A/B tests, personalizations) | On the next page view. A campaign already applied to the page isn't re-run |
Options
Option | What it does | Values / default |
|---|---|---|
at least / less than | Direction of the comparison. at least includes the amount itself; less than doesn't | at least |
Amount | Threshold in your store's currency | Decimal, minimum 0.01 |
Behavior details
- Empty cart. An empty cart has a value of 0, so it matches less than and never matches at least.
- The add-to-cart trigger sees the cart before the add. A widget with the Add to cart trigger checks its rules as the product is being added, so the cart value doesn't include that product yet. To react to the new total, use a trigger that fires afterwards, or show the widget on the cart page.
- Amounts are in your store's currency. On Shopify, a visitor shopping in another currency is compared after conversion, so a threshold of 50 USD matches a EUR cart worth about 50 USD. Conversion uses the current rate, so it can differ slightly from your market's rounded prices.
- Shipping isn't included. Shipping and, on Shopify, any discount codes applied only at checkout aren't part of the cart total.
- Campaigns in Permanent mode. If a campaign uses the Permanent targeting mode, a visitor who already saw a variation keeps it even when their cart value later stops matching. See How targeting works.
Examples
- Free-shipping nudge: a bar targeted to "Cart value less than 50" saying "Add a little more for free shipping", and a second bar targeted to "Cart value at least 50" confirming free shipping. The Cart progress element shows the remaining amount automatically.
- High-value cart offer: an exit-intent popup on /cart targeted to "Cart value at least 150", offering a gift with purchase.
- Test only on engaged shoppers: an A/B test of the cart page layout targeted to "Cart value at least 1", so visitors with empty carts aren't counted.
