Yotpo SMS & Email integration
The Yotpo integration sends visitors who sign up through Personizely widgets to Yotpo SMS & Email: it creates or updates the customer, subscribes them to a list on the channels they consented to, and can send a widget event that starts a Yotpo flow.
Available on: all platforms. Email and SMS.
Connect Yotpo
- Go to Settings → Integrations, find Yotpo and click Connect.
- Log in to Yotpo, choose your store and approve access. You're sent back to Personizely, and your Yotpo lists are loaded.
If you disconnect Personizely from inside Yotpo, the integration is disabled in Personizely too. After creating a list in Yotpo, click Refresh on the integration.
What's synced
Personizely field | Yotpo customer |
|---|---|
Phone | Phone |
First name, Last name | First name, Last name |
Every other field with a value | Custom property, named as in Personizely |
The consent fields (Marketing consent - Email and SMS, Email marketing consent, SMS marketing consent) aren't sent as properties. They decide what Add to list subscribes.
Automation actions
Add these under Automation → Action in → Yotpo. Each needs an email address or a phone number on the visitor's profile.
Action | What it does | Options |
|---|---|---|
Add or update customer | Creates or updates the Yotpo customer with their details and custom properties | — |
Add to list | Adds the customer to the list on each channel they have: email if there's an email, SMS if there's a phone number. Consent is set from the form's consent fields | List |
Trigger event | Sends a custom event for this widget interaction, which you can use to start a Yotpo flow | — |
Add to list doesn't save custom properties. To keep them, put Add or update customer above it on the same element.
How consent is set
For each channel, Add to list marks the customer subscribed only if the visitor gave that consent in a Personizely form:
Visitor has | Email channel | SMS channel |
|---|---|---|
Email marketing consent checked | Subscribed | — |
SMS marketing consent checked | — | Subscribed |
Marketing consent - Email and SMS checked | Subscribed | Subscribed |
No consent field checked | Added to the list without marketing consent | Added to the list without marketing consent |
The source of the subscription is recorded as Personizely. Add the matching consent checkbox to every Form that runs Add to list.
Trigger event
The event is named personizely_widget_ followed by the interaction type, for example personizely_widget_submit for a form submit, personizely_widget_click for a button click or personizely_widget_spin for a wheel spin. It carries:
Property | Value |
|---|---|
widget | The widget's name |
widgetId | The widget's ID |
variation | The variation's name (the widget's name if it has none) |
variationId | The variation's ID |
In Yotpo, use the event as a flow trigger, for example to send a different welcome message per popup variation.
Target filters
Yotpo has no list filter in Personizely. To avoid asking subscribers again, target with the Visitor fields filter filter, for example "SMS marketing consent is checked" in a don't match group. For platforms with list filters, see Email list and tag filters.
Gotchas
- No consent field, no subscription. A form without a consent checkbox adds people to the list, but they can't receive marketing until they consent in Yotpo.
- Custom properties need Add or update customer. Add to list only sends the core details.
- Existing subscribers. If Yotpo reports the customer as a duplicate subscriber, Add to list leaves them as they are. Use Add or update customer to refresh their details.
- No click-ID identification. Yotpo links don't identify visitors in Personizely.
Examples
- Email and SMS sign-up: Form with Email, Phone and Marketing consent - Email and SMS → Add or update customer, then Add to list "Welcome".
- Variation-specific welcome: a widget A/B test with two offers; Trigger event on submit, and a Yotpo flow triggered by personizely_widget_submit branches on variation.
- SMS-only step: step 2 asks for Phone with an SMS marketing consent checkbox → Add to list "SMS subscribers".
