Browser filter
3 min
The Browser filter matches visitors by the web browser they use, such as Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Samsung Browser. Use it to work around a browser-specific issue on your site, or to show instructions that depend on the browser.
Available on: all platforms.
How it's evaluated
The browser comes from what the visitor's browser reports about itself, checked on every page. The visitor matches when their browser is one of the browsers you select. Browser versions aren't considered.
Options
The filter reads: Visitor's browser is one of browsers.
Option | Values |
|---|---|
Browsers | Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Microsoft Edge, Opera, Samsung Browser, Internet Explorer, Brave, Vivaldi. Select at least one |
Behavior details
- Brave and Vivaldi often look like Chrome. Both usually identify themselves as Chrome, so most of their users match Chrome and not Brave or Vivaldi. To reach them, select Chrome as well.
- Browsers on iPhone and iPad. Chrome and Firefox on iOS match Chrome and Firefox. Edge and Opera on iOS match Safari.
- Edge on Android matches Chrome.
- In-app browsers. Pages opened inside apps such as Instagram, Facebook or TikTok use the app's built-in browser. On Android these usually match Chrome. On iPhone they often don't identify as any listed browser, and then match none of them.
- Unlisted browsers never match. To target "everything except Safari", put Safari in a group set to don't match rather than selecting every other browser.
- No version targeting. You can't target, for example, Safari 16 and older.
Examples
- Workaround for one browser: a content campaign targeted at Browser is one of Safari that swaps a video autoplay banner for a static image.
- Samsung users: Browser is one of Samsung Browser, with a callout explaining how to add your store to the home screen.
