First page view filter
The First page view filter matches visitors by their very first page view on your site. With is now it matches a brand-new visitor on the first page they land on, and on no other page. With a date window it matches visitors whose first page view falls in that period.
Available on: all platforms.
How it's evaluated
- is now matches only on the first page a new visitor views. On the next page, including a page change in a single-page storefront, it no longer matches.
- was / was not with a date window compares the date of the visitor's first page view with the window. This is the same date the First visit filter uses.
A visitor is new when their browser has no Personizely visitor cookie for your site. See Visitor identity, sessions and storage.
Options
The filter reads: First page view was / was not / is now [date window].
Option | What it does | Values / default |
|---|---|---|
was / was not / is now | Whether the first page view falls inside the window, outside it, or is the current page | was |
in the last N days | A rolling window: the last N × 24 hours | Default 3 days |
on or after | The first page view happened on the selected date or later | Date |
before | The first page view happened before the selected date | Date |
Behavior details
- Only one page ever matches is now. If the visitor opens a second page in another tab, that page doesn't match either.
- Widgets triggered later on the same page still match. is now stays true for the whole first page view, so a time or exit-intent trigger on the landing page works.
- First visit or First page view? Use First page view for landing-page-only experiences, such as a greeting that shouldn't follow the visitor around. Use First visit to treat new visitors the same way on every page of their first visit.
- Clearing cookies or switching device makes the visitor new again, so they can match is now a second time.
Examples
- Landing-page greeting: First page view is now, on a bar that welcomes new visitors and disappears once they browse.
- Experiment on first impressions: a content campaign targeted at First page view is now, testing two hero banners for brand-new visitors only.
