Cart items filter
The Cart items filter matches visitors by which products are in their cart. Use it for cross-sells ("you have the camera, add a memory card"), to hide an upsell from visitors who already added it, or to target an offer to buyers of a product line.
Available on: Shopify (Online Store and Hydrogen) · Wix.
How it's evaluated
The filter reads: Visitor has [any of / none of / all of] the following items in his cart, followed by the products you select.
Option | Matches when |
|---|---|
any of | At least one of the selected products is in the cart |
all of | Every selected product is in the cart |
none of | None of the selected products is in the cart, including when the cart is empty |
Matching is by product: any variant of a selected product counts.
The cart is read when the page loads. It also updates on the page whenever the cart changes through your theme or Personizely: product forms, AJAX add-to-cart buttons, cart drawers and quantity changes on Shopify, and add or remove events on Wix.
Where the filter is used | When a cart change takes effect |
|---|---|
Widget Target rule | The next time a trigger fires on the same page |
Campaign target (content, A/B tests, personalizations) | On the next page view. A campaign already applied to the page isn't re-run |
Options
Option | What it does | Values / default |

Products | The products to look for. You can add products one by one, or bulk-add several products or whole collections | At least one product |
Behavior details
- Collections are a snapshot. Adding a collection adds the products it contains at that moment. Products added to the collection later aren't included; edit the target to add them.
- Product level, not variant level. You can't target one size or color specifically. Any variant of the product matches.
- Price test duplicates count as the original. On Shopify, when a price test puts a duplicate product in the cart, the filter treats it as the original product you selected.
- The add-to-cart trigger sees the cart before the add. A widget with the Add to cart trigger checks its rules as the product is being added, so that product isn't in the cart yet. To react to the product being added, use the trigger's own product settings instead.
- Deleted products. A product deleted from your store can't be in a cart, so it never matches any of or all of.
- Campaigns in Permanent mode. A visitor who already saw a variation keeps it even if their cart later stops matching. See How targeting works.
Examples
- Accessory cross-sell: a cart-page callout targeted to "any of: Camera X" and "none of: 64 GB memory card" (two Cart items filters in a match all group), offering the memory card.
- Don't upsell what's already there: a product recommendation popup targeted to "none of: Gift wrap".
- Complete the set: "all of: Shampoo, Conditioner" plus "none of: Hair mask" to offer the third product of a routine.
